A Dream in the Making
Deep Roots
At Domaine Roy & fils, our purpose is to craft wines that shine as an example of the pure vitality of Oregon. It is from a perspective of tremendous respect for the landscape, the vintage, and the community here that we put forward our renditions of Oregon terroir. As stewards of this great region, we see it as our responsibility to uphold a standard of excellence balanced with a reverence for the nature of our home.
Our Founder and Winemaker, Jared Etzel, was raised in the center of the Oregon Wine community in the wild and early days when farmers like his father were establishing their roots in the rugged hillsides of the Willamette Valley. He witnessed the passion and potential of this community of winegrowers who worked tirelessly to produce excellent wines from the lush landscape. The Etzel family was part of a generation driven to help Oregon Pinot Noir find its unique voice. They recognized the incredible potential of these ancient soils to produce excellent wines that were unlike any other region. Upholding this standard of excellence has become a multi-generational endeavor.
As he honed his craft, Jared ventured to Spain and California to experience winemaking in other areas. In the end, it was this property that brought Jared home. With his business partner Marc-André Roy, he had the opportunity to purchase this incredible parcel on the rise of Worden Hill, where filberts were farmed previously on a fertile slope. With the reverence for Oregon terroir instilled in him since his youth, Jared embarked on planting his very first vineyard in the Willamette Valley, where he would create the opportunity to showcase his own vision of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The Iron Filbert Vineyard, here in Dundee, is where our winery now stands. It is the homage we pay to Oregon wine, and this place is all-encompassing. We grow our grapes on the same parcel where we bring them in to craft the wine. You can feel the energy and history of this special place, almost as if it radiates from the ground.
We aim to honor the land with everything we do. We invite you to share this place with us by sharing our experience and our organically-farmed wines. Our story is unfolding, and we would love for you to be a part of it.
